The Seacoast Youth and Community Orchestras of midcoast Maine provide an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to participate in an orchestral ensemble under the leadership of a professional musician and conductor.
The orchestras comprise three groups, Prima, Mezza, and Avanzata, which are divided up by playing ability rather than age.
Prima
Players are able to read music and have a basic knowledge of first position.
Mezza
For musicians of intermediate ability with significant music reading and ensemble skills. This group tackles moderately challenging music for string instruments.
Avanzata
The Avanzata Orchestra is for advanced performers. During the spring semester this is a symphony orchestra with wind, brass, and percussion players as well as a full complement of strings.
